Believe it or not Fall is upon us. The shift in the energy that surrounds us becomes a little more internal. The leaves turn, the sun leaves us a earlier and our body and spirits go into anticipation mode. It's as if your physical body knows that the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is around the corner.

So instead of going into hyper mode-slow down, regroup and take in the beauty of your surroundings, whether it's the school kids running around with their backpacks on or the cool nights (okay-somewhat cool!). Take this awareness into your yoga practice. Find out what does your body need at that moment. Some days it needs a little more and some days it needs a little less.

Your journey lies in listening to those internal rhythms while keeping that delicate balance between effort and surrender. The transition that we experience in both the Autumn season and our yoga practice are equally essential to the well being of you and of nature. Enjoy the journey.

Dearbhla Kelly began her practice of yoga in 1994 while studying in Amsterdam. She left her hometown, Dublin, Ireland, in 2001 to pursue a Ph.D in philosophy in Chicago. While living in Chicago she taught yoga at Moksha Yoga Center, Yoga Now, and various other locations. She relocated to Los Angeles in January 2006.

Dearbhla’s asana practice has become much more vinyasa-based since moving to L.A. The evolution of her asana practice has been a wonderful way for her to deepen her relationship to herself and to finetune her ability to take the yoga off the mat into other aspects of life. She was drawn to teach at Mark Blanchard's Power Yoga studio because of the non-dogmatic attitude to teaching there and the down to earth attitude of students, teachers, and Mark, and Elizabeth. Mark encourages his teachers to find and express their true voice, to be authentic, and to teach from their inner wisdom and experience. Dearbhla loves the supportive atmosphere of the studio and the student’s willingness to expand their practice and tryout everything from new arm balances to inversions and challenging abdominals.

Dearbhla teaches at the Brentwood Studio on Fridays from 12 - 1:15pm and Saturdays from 2 - 3:30pm.
